Welcome to Hiawatha!!
It is a real pleasure to welcome you to the totally charming "City of
Beautiful Maples"
Hiawatha, Kansas. Hiawatha is the County seat for
Brown County, with some of the richest soil in the world, and our
agricultural-based enconomy is alive and well.
Our beautiful city boast of it's maple tree-lined streets, the historical
landmark city "clock tower," brick streets, the Davis Memorial, and
quaint shopping. A must for visitors in the driving tour of wonderful
homes from the late 1800's that have been restored to their original
glory.
Hiawatha is the home of two outstanding museums: the Brown County
Museum, which depicts the history of Brown County, settled in 1854,
and the Ag Museum, which resembles a 1900 farmstead, complete with
farm house, wash house, blacksmith shop, hen house, woodworking shop,
milk barn housing farm implements, and "Windmill Lane" with more than
40 windmills donated in memory of area farmers.
Area residents enjoy a modern hospital facility with many physicians on
staff. A quality aquatic park with a 140-foot water slide, making it the
center of many "Hiawatha Happenings" with the Fisher Community
Center near by. The beautiful Hiawatha City Lake is the perfect place
for family and community gatherings and fishing. The Hiawatha Country
Club has a 9 hole golf course, pool and clubhouse.
So welcome to our city! Enjoy the laid-back lifestyle, the wonderful
rolling hills, the lush fields, and the warmth of people who live and work
here.
